Ferguson House
921 Woods Road
1941, English Medieval

The Ferguson House is a Period Revival in the picturesque English Medieval mode, with a steeply pitched gable roof sheathed in slate. This house is an impressive, highly refined, long two—story structure of square cut, subtle polychrome stone with steel casement windows. A symmetrical two story, flat gabled, shallow projecting ‘wing’, containing the front door with cantilevered bay window above, strongly defines the main entry. A heavy, carved wood front door, set deeply into a recessed alcove trimmed in dressed Indiana limestone, and framed with a stone Tudor arch, maintain the standard of the style. Story—and—a—half gabled end wings, set back from the main front facade, provide a two—car garage on one side and screened porch with bedroom above on the other. Flat dormer gables, with wavy—bottom siding at the eave line, emphasize second floor bedroom windows and add interest to its elegant composition of forms and materials.
